Something about the resilience of a woman who pushes through everything that most would have been defeated in. That strength is found in Tina Payne of Cincinnati, OH who is a wife, a homeschool mom and online nurse entrepreneur who shares many of her lessons with us.

1.Who are you? What do you do and How long have you been in business?

My name is Tina M. Payne, MSN, RN. I am a wife, a mom of five, a Registered Nurse since the year 2005, a published author, and a small business owner from Cincinnati, Ohio. My experiences in nursing include working in the ER, PCU, home health care, hospice, medical-surgical, telemetry, and as nurse educator. In 2019, I co-authored my first book, Push Past Your Fear and Find Your Purpose: A Woman’s Anthology to Power”, which is available on Amazon.

Although I started my first business back (Grace Health Career Center) in 2013, I launched my online & mobile scrubs store, Grace Health Scrubs in 2017. My second business, Tina M. Payne Consulting, LLC (TMPC) was legally established in 2019, after about a year and a half of getting my coaching clients results and testing the viability of this as a business model. My purpose of TMPC is to impact the lives of other nurses who suffer from nurse burn-out and empower them to create viable businesses. I am incredibly passionate about helping them monetize their current skills to create passive income. I have a variety of experiences and talents however my niche is scrubs business start-up. I currently provide online business coaching for nurses wanting to launch a successful online scrubs business. Since 2018, I have helped over 50 nurses and health care workers with the blueprint to getting their scrubs business started.

2. How did you end up there?

Becoming pregnant at age 18, living on welfare, getting kicked out of nursing school, getting married, being suicidal, divorced, becoming burned out from bedside nursing, and experiencing postpartum complications in 2016 all led me to create my footprint in online business and where I am that order. Above all else, prayer, journaling, family support, and a positive mindset is what continues to help me so that I can help others. I’ve grown up watching the strongest woman in my life overcome some major trials. My mother, who had me at 16 years old, is my driving force and by me witnessing her as a successful entrepreneur for almost 20 years with her heavily certified Commercial Cleaning Company it has always motivates me to keep going. She has been there through every trial I have ever encountered.

In 2017, while being on maternity leave and having the desire to start a health care related business from home that would allow me the freedom to homeschool my children. I started an online scrubs business called Grace Health Scrubs. At that time there was not a lot of information about the steps to get started. I reached out to an individual on social media who seemed to have a lot of answers and experience in the industry. However, a few weeks later I realized that person was not forthcoming or even honest about the business and actually told me that if I didn't want to continue to use her as my primary wholesaler that I would not succeed in this business. Little did she know that was the actual fuel I needed to hear in order to get me on track to my true purpose.

After making many mistakes early on, I finally learned the blueprint to getting started in the Uniform industry. My original goal was to keep others from making the same mistakes I had made early on and showing them how to launch their business independently. Nurses began to inquire with me more and more about “how to start a scrubs business” and after a year and half of providing virtual coaching and seeing the results of teaching them my blueprint I decided to register my coaching business Tina M. Payne Consulting, LLC.

3. Tell us about a challenge you have had in business and how you have

overcome it?

Letting go of the idea that everything has to be perfect in my business before I make a move was a major challenge early on. I now realize that if you have a strong desire to achieve something even if you do not have all of the answers, God will reveal and provide you with the necessary resources to accomplish that task. This may seem like a scary concept for some but most of the time you have to take calculated risks and jump before you think you are ready in some aspects of business. I am a firm believer in affirming what you desire for your business and focus on the tasks that will help you reach those larger goals.

4. What do you believe is an important factor in success for entrepreneurs? even if it's something you are struggling with.

There are so many important factors that I could list. However, one of the most important factors for entrepreneurs to be successful, starts with unwavering faith and belief in your product or service. There is a confidence that is absolutely necessary when communicating how you are solving a problem as an entrepreneur. Although it can be lonely and uncertain at times, there is no room for self-doubt when building a successful business. You have to be your own cheerleader in the beginning. People will not buy into YOU, if they feel you are scared or timid with your business.

I have overcome the initial feeling many new entrepreneurs suffer from, which is known as the `imposter syndrome”. People who suffer from imposter syndrome often don’t believe in their abilities, they have a lot of self-doubt, they may not believe what they have to offer is valid, and they may also compare themselves to others in their respective industry.

There is a lot of mindset work that goes into overcoming this. There were not many people providing the services in my industry that I currently offer. So in order to stand out I made sure to provide value in videos and also the exact services that my target audience were asking me for. My coaching business started out of the lack of available information for those wanting to start a scrubs business.

Overtime, new entrepreneurs can combat this self doubt and begin to experience more confidence in their niche by documenting the results of their customers or clients. As an online entrepreneur I have and am continuing to build credibility in my niche through the shared testimonials of my clients. Which helps to create social proof and is absolutely necessary in online and offline business models.

5. How do you contribute to women's empowerment?

I contribute to women’s empowerment daily by catering to the start-up business needs of women and nurses wanting to create freedom in their lives through entrepreneurship. I continue to share free resources on my website and YouTube channel and I actively promote other women owned businesses. In addition, I share my story of triumph in my book Push Past Your Fear and Find Your Purpose: A Woman’s Anthology to Power” and through speaking opportunities catering to women's empowerment in business.
